Please join us as local author (Keene, NH) and Keene State College professor Brinda Charry presents her recent novel, “The East Indian”. Published in May, “The East Indian” was an immediate success. NPR praised Charry for “. . .beautifully (pioneering) a much-needed path forward into rich, new literary territory". Selected for May’s Indie Next List, a list of books selected by independent booksellers around the country as noteworthy and distinctive, the novel is set during the early days of English colonization in Jamestown, before servitude calcified into racialized slavery, “The East Indian” gives authentic voice to an otherwise unknown historic figure, Tony, and brings the world he would have encountered to vivid life. In this coming-of-age tale, narrated by a most memorable literary rascal, Charry conjures a young character sure to be beloved by readers for years to come.
