Please join us in our cafe for a reading, discussion, and signing by local writer MAGGIE KEMP. Also on-hand will be the illustrator and Toadstool favorite MELODY ZAHN RUSSELL - famous for her potato print greeting cards!
Sam Fisherwoman: The Reel Story, Maggie’s new picture book, a collaboration with Waldorf art educator Melody Zahn Russell, will be published in June 2018!
Includes safety tips and a fishing glossary!
Sam is one spirited little girl, convinced that she can do big things without anybody’s help, even her big brothers. So she sets out to prove it, showing she’s a real fisherwoman early one summer morning at her family’s lake cottage. Readers will feel Sam’s excitement at each step of her mission. When things seem to go awry, families will cheer for Sam as she faces each new challenge with a can-do attitude. But will this spunky little girl catch her fish?
Described as “visual haiku”, Waldorf art educator, Melody Zahn Russell’s potato prints embody Sam’s story beautifully, grounding it in the adventures of a life on the water.

About the Illustrator: POTATO PRINT GREETING CARDS ALL FROM ORIGINAL DESIGNS by Melody Zahn Russell
Almost as a joke I began making potato prints to earn tuition for graduate work in the art of Eurythmy in 1986. Later, when I married and my first (only) child arrived, I wanted to work at home! Mrs Russell was my new name! The earthy humble potato was a cheap and handy servant to help me with my cottage craft. Slowly and surely designs came into being. My love of color and nature combined. My goal was to make healing images. Now- fast forward to 2014 there are over 100 designs and potato prints are sent all over the world. My "baby" is 25, a college grad and artist in her own right. She is designing and managing this website. At last "Mrs Russell" has joined the world wide web, and is hoping to go viral! I welcome your questions and suggestions! (mrsrussellspotatoes.com)
