This was my first exposure to Neil Gaiman, and quite frankly it exceeded the lofty expectations I had for it; it was brilliant. Our protagonist abandons a familial obligation and instead travels to the lane of his childhood home. Knowing it to have been demolished years prior, he continues further along the farmland road of his youth and comes to find a peculiar farmhouse that inspires a vivid recollection of a since forgotten chapter in his otherwise unremarkable life. What he comes to recall makes up the plot of this fantastical story of nightmarish intrigue. It is a dreamy blend of science-fiction, fantasy, and horror, threaded throughout with philosophical significance. I deeply enjoyed this work, and I am now a firm believer in the mythos of Gaiman.
