Join us via Zoom on November 17th, for Adversity is Your Ally—a one-of-a-kind free event from speaker and author Ed Kressy and the Toadstool Bookshops.
How hard do you have to look these days, to find adversity? Pandemic, political polarization, poor perceptions of policing... Adversity is hardly in short supply…in fact, it seems like it’s our most abundant resource! How would it be if you not only overcame your adversity…but used it to your advantage?
You’ll hear Ed Kressy’s incredible journey from the depths of adversity to the heights of achieving his dreams, be inspired to make changes in your own life, and learn the three ways Ed overcame some of life’s most formidable challenges. Ed will walk you through why these challenges are so important and how you can apply these lessons to immediately begin to transform your life. You’ll go forth armed with a better understanding of why these times we live in are your greatest opportunity… and how to take advantage of them.
The ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but at times of challenge and controversy…character is shaped and tested in times of adversity —MLK
About the Author
Ed Kressy is (probably) the only person once arrested by the FBI, then recognized with a community service award… by the FBI director! Since 2015, he's been part of Defy Ventures, volunteering in Pelican Bay State Prison, the only supermax state prison in California, as a member of the Pelican Bay Volunteer Alliance (PBVA). Both Defy Ventures and the PBVA are nonprofits that train currently and formerly incarcerated persons in transformational skills related to entrepreneurism, employment, and personal development. Ed continues to support both organizations by volunteering inside prisons, attending monthly business coaching and community-building events, and advocating for the organizations. Ed believes it's always worth it to give someone-including yourself-a second chance. Even from the depths of addiction, psychosis, and criminal activity, it is possible to transform into a person who makes positive contributions to society. His work appears in The Washington Post, Vox, and elsewhere. His memoir My Addiction & Recovery is available at the Toadstool Bookshop and wherever books are sold…here’s what popular author James Nestor has to say about it:
A rollercoaster of a tale I couldn’t put down...vivid, visceral, heartbreaking, and inspiring. Ed took a deep and disturbing walk through a modern version of Dante's hell, and, thankfully, had the fortitude to dig his way out to the other side.
—James Nestor, author of the New York Times bestseller Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art
