At 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, Blanch A. Nutting will sign and talk about her book, Monster in the Wall.

All of us, young and old, often meet scary things in life. When we try to analyze the cause of our fears and deal with them, we can begin to put those fears in perspective and diminish them. It is with this belief that Nutting wrote this endearing story about her grandsons' experience and their subsequent dealing with a fear that became the source for a good laugh.

Blanch A. Nutting, a middle child, was born into a large family in central Maine. She grew up caring for younger siblings and, at the age of eleven, babysitting neighbor kids. Children were always adored in her girlhood home and still are today as she engages with her two grandsons, ages eleven and eight. She has been married for 37 years to her husband, Allan, and together they have three grown children and two grandsons.

Jim Barnes always has a song to sing and a story to tell. Whether he's writing tunes about our gallant men and women in uniform or taking a humorous look at everyday living, Jim always brings charm, wit and energy to every performance. As a boy, Tovar spent his summers fishing for trout and hunting bullfrogs. While still in high school, he began experimenting with vegetarianism. By the age of twenty he was a vegan. A decade later, in the face of declining health, he returned to omnivory and within a few years found himself heading into the woods, rifle in hand.

Life for children who grew up in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire's countryside during the 1940s was simple and less complicated than the hustle and bustle of later decades. It was a time when storekeepers filled your orders and shoe stores actually repaired shoes. Morning chores included milking cows, and an evening out was square dancing at the local high school or going down to the movie theater, where tickets cost twenty-five cents. The towns of Peterborough, Dublin, Jaffrey and Hancock composed part of this picturesque landscape, which still attracts leaf peepers every autumn.

Join author Tom Shultz as he chronicles the people and places of this disappearing way of life in the Monadnock region.

Doris Haddock was a lifelong resident of New Hampshire. She died in 2010 at the age of 100, having walked across the entire country at the age of 89 in an effort to promote campaign finance reform. In her last decade she became a galvanizing figure in populist politics.

Dennis Michael Burke is a writer living in Arizona. He was the former director of Arizona Coomon Cause. 

With her walk across America at the age of 90, New Hampshire native Doris Haddock entered the national consciousness as "Granny D", a candid and feisty champion of commonsense politics.

Granny D's American Century is the story of Doris both before and after the walk: as a young woman whose bedrock New England values were tested during the Great Depression, and as a no-nonsense nonagenarian putting those values to work in the cause of voter's rights and campaign finance reform. Written in clear, unsparing prose by Dennis Burke, Granny D's American Century is a warm reflection on a life well lived, and a spirited call for virtue today.

Joining Dennis for his presentation will be a pair of actors: one in-character speaking as Granny in her early years; the second as the Granny we meet in her 90s.

Beatriz visits us from Connecticut and will discuss "Overseas" in a conversation\interview with Bradford Bates, headmaster of Dublin School. In a sleight of time travel the romantic novel jumps between the present day financial world of New York City and that of a World War 1 soldier poet. The poets of the period and the history of that era, long an interest of Beatriz, will be the topic of the conversation.
